Description
Corbel is an element that comes out of a wall and its task is to carry the weight imposed by a balcony. Corbels are made in such a way that they are pushed deep inside the wall. This helps in reducing the pressure on the exposed portion. Corbels are also used for making corbel arches. These arches consist of overlapping corbels which meet at a peak. When they are made in such a way, their look becomes similar to the inverted staircases. These arches are called corbel vault if they are used as a series. Corbels can also be separate pieces of stone which are separated from each other like brackets.
