FAQ
If your question is not here, write to us — and
tell us what you were looking for, so we can add it.
GETTING STARTED
Does it cost anything?
No. Posting a listing, replying to one, and everything else on the site is free.
Do I need an account?
Yes, for two things: posting a listing and replying to one.
Browsing and searching need no account at all. Requiring one to reply is deliberate — it is most of
what keeps the scam messages down.
I registered but cannot sign in.
Check your email and click the confirmation link. An account stays inactive until you do. If the
email has not arrived, look in spam, and if it is genuinely not there, ask us and we will activate
it by hand.
I have forgotten my password.
Use the "Forgot your password?" link on the sign-in page. We cannot tell you your old password
even if you ask — passwords are stored hashed, so nobody here can read them. We can only reset.
POSTING A LISTING
How do I post?
Sign in, choose Post a listing, pick the category that fits, write a title and a
description, add photos, set a price and a location, and publish. Take a moment over the category,
because most buyers browse one rather than search.
How many listings can I have?
There is a limit on how many you can have live at once. Account → My listings tells
you where you stand — it shows how many of your allowance you are using, and says so plainly
when you have reached it.
A slot frees up when you delete a listing or when one expires. So if you are at the limit and want
to post something new, delete whichever listing you no longer need. Listings that are pending review,
or that we have blocked, still count — an account whose listings are all awaiting review cannot post
another until those are dealt with.
How many photos, and how big?
The upload box on the post form tells you how many you may add and the maximum size of each. JPG,
PNG and WebP all work.
Photos are the single biggest thing that decides whether a listing sells. Take them in daylight,
show the actual item rather than a picture from the internet, and include the flaws — a listing whose
photos hide the dent gets a buyer who leaves when they see it.
My listing says "pending review".
Most listings go live the moment you publish them. One waits only when something needs checking —
that is what "pending" means, and Account → My listings says which of yours are in that state.
It is not usually a judgement about you and it does not last long. If a listing has been pending
for more than a day, ask us and quote its address.
I just posted and it will not let me post again.
There is a short wait between posts, to stop automated bulk posting. Give it a minute or two and
try again — the message tells you if you are still inside it.
How long does a listing stay up?
A long time, and in some categories they do not expire at all — you do not need to keep renewing
something to keep it visible. Account → My listings shows the status of each of yours, and marks
any that have expired.
Can I move my listing back to the top?
Yes, and it is free. Open your listing and use Push to top, which resets its date
so it appears among the newest again. There is a cooling-off period between pushes on the same
listing; the button reappears when you may use it again.
How do I edit or delete a listing?
Account → My listings. Every listing there has Edit and Delete.
My listing has sold. What now?
Delete it. It frees a slot, and it saves you the messages from people asking about something that is
gone.
WHY IS MY LISTING NOT SHOWING?
Almost always one of these, in rough order of likelihood:
- It is still pending review — see above. Check Account → My listings; it
will say. - You have not confirmed your email. Nothing publishes from an unactivated
account. - It was blocked. If a listing breaks the rules below we take it down. You will
see it marked in My listings. - It expired — rare, given how long listings run, but possible.
- Search has not caught up. A new listing appears on the site instantly and in
search within a minute or so.
If none of those fit, ask us and quote the listing's address.
BUYING, AND STAYING SAFE
How do I contact a seller?
Use the contact form on the listing. Your message goes to the seller by email; they reply to you
directly. You need to be signed in.
Is Tuffclassified involved in the deal?
No, and this matters. We are a noticeboard. We do not handle payment, we do not hold money in
escrow, we do not deliver anything, we do not verify sellers, and we are not a party to your
transaction. Everything you agree is between you and the other person.
How do I avoid being scammed?
The single rule that prevents almost every scam on a site like this:
see the item, then pay. In person.
The scams that actually happen here follow a small number of scripts. If you recognise one, stop:
- Any request for money before you have the item. A booking amount, a token
advance, a refundable deposit, a "transport charge", a customs or GST payment on delivery.
There is no legitimate reason to pay a stranger before you have seen what you are buying. - An OTP you are asked to read out. Nobody legitimate ever needs a one-time
password from your phone. Sending money never requires you to enter an OTP or scan a QR code —
scanning a QR code pays money out, it does not bring money in. If someone says they
are "sending you money" and asks you to scan or approve something, they are taking it. - The armed-forces posting. A seller who says they are army, para-military or
police, being transferred, selling a car or furniture cheap, and can only ship it. It is the
most-used script in India and it is always a lie. - Pressure and a story. Another buyer waiting, leaving the country tomorrow, a
family emergency. Urgency is a tool. - A price far below the market. There is a reason for it, and it is not your
good luck. - Being moved off the site immediately to WhatsApp or Telegram before any real
question about the item is answered.
And practically: meet in a public place in daylight, take somebody with you, check the ID and the
paperwork for anything registered — a vehicle's RC, a phone's IMEI and bill — count cash before you
part, and get a receipt with both names on it. For a vehicle, do not hand over money until the
transfer papers are signed.
I think I have been scammed.
Report the listing so we can take it down and stop it happening to somebody else. Then report it
to the police — for online financial fraud, the national cybercrime helpline is
1930, and complaints can be filed at
cybercrime.gov.in.
The sooner a fraudulent transfer is reported, the better the chance of it being stopped.
We cannot recover your money. We can remove the listing and close the account, and we cooperate
with the police when they ask us to.
SEARCHING
How do I find things faster?
- Search for the plain thing — "royal enfield", not "royal enfield bike for sale in good
condition". - Narrow with the filters — category, city, price range — rather than by adding words.
- If a search returns nothing, we look again more loosely and suggest a correction where the word
looks misspelt.
Can I be told when something new is posted?
Yes. Run the search you care about and save it as an alert. We email you when a
new listing matches. Manage or delete alerts in Account → Alerts.
What is the heart on a listing?
Favourites. Sign in, tap it, and the listing is saved to Account → Favourites.
YOUR ACCOUNT
Can I change my email, username or password?
All three, in Account → Settings. Changing your email needs confirmation at the new address.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes — Account → Settings → Download my data. It gives you a file with
your profile, your listings and your alerts. No need to ask anyone.
How do I delete my account?
Account → Settings → Delete account. It removes your account and your
listings and cannot be undone. Two honest limits: copies other people already made of a public
listing are not ours to delete, and deleted content sits in our backups until those are overwritten
on their ordinary cycle. Our
Privacy Policy sets out the detail.
RULES AND MODERATION
What am I not allowed to post?
Section 7 of the Terms is the full
list. The things we actually remove, day to day:
- anything illegal to sell, and anything a licence is required for that you do not hold;
- betting, gambling, satta, and "IDs" for any of it;
- adult and escort services;
- counterfeits, and stolen goods;
- money-making schemes, loan and investment offers, work-from-home recruitment with a fee;
- somebody else's photos or text, or their personal details posted without consent;
- the same listing posted repeatedly, or in categories it does not belong to.
How do I report a listing?
Use the Report link on the listing. Choose the reason that fits and send it —
reports are anonymous and a person reads them.
Somebody is using my photos, or my brand.
That is a different process, because it is a legal notice rather than a report. Use the
infringement complaint form. It asks who
you are, what you own and how you own it, because we cannot act on an anonymous claim that somebody
else's listing should come down.
Section 5 of the Terms sets out exactly what happens next — how quickly we acknowledge and decide,
what the seller is told, and the window in which a court order has to be produced. Those are
commitments rather than preferences, which is why they live in the Terms and not here.
My listing was blocked and I think you are wrong.
Reply to the email we sent, or write to the Grievance Officer named in section 5A of the Terms.
Tell us why. Some blocking is done automatically by software that compares a listing against ones we
have already banned, and software gets things wrong — you are entitled to have a person look at it.
PRIVACY AND ADS
What of mine is public?
Your listings, your public profile, and whatever you put in them. If you write your phone number
into a listing, everybody can see your phone number. Your email address is not shown — messages go
through the site.
Do you sell my data?
No. The Privacy Policy lists every service
that receives anything and why.
Why do I see ads?
They are what pays for the site being free. They come from Google, which sets its own cookies on
its own terms; you can control that at
policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
We do not give Google your name, email or phone number.
STILL STUCK?
Contact us. If it is about a specific listing,
send us its address — it saves a round trip. For a complaint you want formally recorded, the
Grievance Officer is named in section 5A of the Terms.
This page explains how the site works in plain language. It is not a contract: where it and the
Terms & Conditions disagree, the
Terms are what binds.
