The Bharatiya Janata Party won wins in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand assembly elections shortly after Narendra Modi seized power at the Centre in 2014. The party president Amit Shah and Modi led by Modi continued the party's triumphant march in the Indian Political Map to other states. The BJP had been in power in 21 states by 2018, either as an independent party or in alliances with a regional party. But, the process was halted when it lost three states in the Hindi heartland - Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, as well as Chhattisgarh.
