Description

In routine medical examinations, BP is usually calculated using an indirect technique using a sphygmomanometer made by BP Instrument Manufacturers and a stethoscope. The designation is resulting from the Greek word, sphygmos, meaning pulse. This technique is easy to use and can be mechanized. The sphygmometer bought from BP Instrument Manufacturers calculates BP by corresponding air pressure against the pressure of blood in the artery. The sphygmomanometer comprises an expandable pressure cuff that is enfolded around the patient's upper arm and linked to a mercury-type manometer or a pressure gauge. The cuff comprises a rubber blabber inside an inelastic fabric covering that can be enfolded around the upper arm and attached with either hooks or a Velcro fastener. The cuff is generally inflated physically with a rubber bulb and collapsed slowly through a needle valve. Air is impelled by a rubber bulb into the cuff until the blood stream in the artery is stopped, as established by a stethoscope applied to the lower part of the arm. As air is slowly unconfined, arterial pressure surpasses cuff pressure, and a sound of rehabilitated blood flow, recognized as " Korotkoff sound" can be heard via the stethoscope. The manometer supplied by BP Instrument Suppliers' interpretation at which this sound is first heard is logged as the systolic pressure. As the cuff pressure is further abridged, the sound generally surges in intensity until, when the cuff is nearly emptied, the artery is no longer clasped and blood flow is normal. At this theme, the “Korotkoff Sound” will stop. The point at which the “Korotkoff Sound” is stifled typically just before it stops is usually taken as the diastolic pressure.
