Urban poverty in India is over 25 percent; some 81 million people live in urban areas on incomes that are below the poverty line. Apnalaya works on urban poverty in Mumbai. As cities across the world rapidly develop, life is becoming increasingly difficult for those left behind. In India, the causes of urban poverty can be linked to the lack of infrastructure in rural areas, forcing inhabitants of these regions to seek out work in India’s mega-cities.
