Although cancer in children is rare, it is the leading cause of death by disease after infancy among children in the World. According to a recent publication, it is estimated that 4,16,500 children and adolescents between the ages of 0 to 19 were diagnosed with cancer and 142,300 died of this disease in the year 2017 (GBD 2017, Childhood Cancer Collaboration).
The number of survivors continues to increase, given that the incidence of childhood cancer has been rising slightly in recent decades and that survival rates overall are also improving.
