What are thyroid function tests?
Thyroid Function Tests are a series of blood tests that are performed to determine how well your thyroid gland is functioning. T3, T3RU, T4, and TSH tests are among those available.
The thyroid gland is a tiny gland in the lower front of your neck. It is in charge of regulating several biological processes, including metabolism, energy generation, and mood.
T3 and thyroxine are the two primary hormones produced by the thyroid (T4). If your thyroid gland does not generate enough of these hormones, you may experience weight gain, fatigue, and sadness. Hypothyroidism is the medical term for this condition.
If your thyroid gland produces too many hormones, you may experience weight loss, increased anxiety, tremors, and a "high." This is known as hyperthyroidism.
When a doctor is concerned about your thyroid hormone levels, he or she will typically prescribe broad screening tests, such as the T4 or thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test. If those results are abnormal, your doctor will prescribe additional tests to determine the cause of the problem.
