Africa is a major supplier of raw materials grows in Africa to the global market. Among its most valuable exports are coffee, cocoa, and cashews—three products enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. But how do these raw materials travel from African farms to consumers across the globe? Let’s explore the journey of these essential goods.
Growing and Harvesting
Africa is famous for its high-quality coffee, with countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda leading production. Coffee beans grow best in high-altitude regions with rich soil. Farmers carefully cultivate and handpick ripe coffee cherries to ensure the best quality.
Processing and Exporting
Once harvested, the cherries are processed to remove the beans inside. This can be done by drying them in the sun (natural process) or using water (washed process). After processing, the beans are sorted, packed in sacks, and shipped to coffee roasters worldwide.
Roasting and Distribution
Once the beans reach their destination, they are roasted to bring out their unique flavours. After roasting, they are ground, packed, and sold in supermarkets, cafes, and online stores for consumers to enjoy.
