The airline was established in June 1982. It was first operational in 1983. It has been owned by many owners throughout time. In its initial times, the airline filed for bankruptcy two times. In 2011 the airline was purchased by the Davis family from Minnesota who is also the owners of Cambria which is a producer of top-quality countertops. In the intervening years, Sun Country Airlines went through a tremendous period of expansion and was known for providing top-quality service to its passengers since. In 2017, the Davis family sold Sun Country Airlines in 2017 to Apollo Global Management in 2017.
