Leaching: Miners use a cyanide solution to dissolve the gold from the ore. Oxygen is added to help with the process.

Flotation: Miners use chemicals to attach air bubbles to the gold-containing minerals, allowing them to rise to the surface.

Refining the gold
Amalgamation: Miners use mercury to amalgamate the gold, then burn the amalgam to separate the gold from the mercury.
Direct smelting: Miners use direct smelting to recover gold from panning operations.
Other steps in the gold mining process include assaying, tailings storage, and water management.
