Indian have been moving to United States of America (USA) since the early 1700s. By 1900, there were more than two thousand Indians in USA, primarily in California. Today, Indian Americans are the second-largest immigrant group in the United States. According to data from the 2018 American Community Survey (ACS)—which is conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau—there are 4.2 million people of Indian origin residing in the United States. Although a large proportion are not U.S. citizens (38 percent), roughly 2.6 million are (1.4 million are naturalized citizens and 1.2 million were born in the United States).

As the profile of the Indian American community has grown, so too has its economic, political, and social influence. With several Indians occupying major C-suites, important political positions and top educators in USA, President Joe Biden might not have been wrong in pointing out that Indian-Americans are taking over the country.
