Queen Victoria Coins

Queen Victoria Coins were minted during the reign from 1837 to 1901 in the United Kingdom. They included denominations of Pennies, Shillings, Florins, and Sovereigns. The designs evolved over time reflecting Artistic Styles and Technological Advancements. Queen Victoria's first coins were issued in 1838 and featured the 'Young Head' portrait by William Wyon RA on the obverse.


During Queen Victoria's reign, a variety of coin types were minted specifically for use in India. One prominent example was the British India Rupee, a Silver Coin featuring Queen Victoria's portrait on the obverse. Her crowned bust facing left was surrounded by the inscription "VICTORIA QUEEN." The reverse side displayed the denomination and the year of minting. Gold coins such as the Mohur, showcased her image on the obverse and symbolically significant motifs on the reverse. Other denominations like the Half Rupee and the copper coins like the Anna's also featured Queen Victoria's portrait, with corresponding designs on the reverse. These diverse coin types served as essential currency in India during Queen Victoria's era, representing the influence and presence of the British Empire in the subcontinent.
