The Power of Giving Back
The act of giving back brings purpose to life. Have you wondered? Think about each second you are either giving or being given. But what exactly is giving back?
By definition giving back means “to provide help or financial assistance to others in appreciation of one’s own success or good fortune.”
It fosters a symbiotic relationship in which both sides benefit- the giver and the receiver. Your gift has a positive impact on the recipients. And as a result of being a giver, you profit personally. It’s not always simple to notice the direct benefits to individuals you assist. Other times, the long-term advantages of your actions may not be apparent for several years. It’s possible that your gift will benefit the sick, fund a project for your favourite organisation, provide a home to an orphan or assist a child in learning something useful. Whatever you provide, whether it’s time, money, or effort, it will always make a difference.
If you live in a perpetual state of giving, if every step and breath you take is a process of giving, you’ve turned your existence into a contribution. You’ll naturally reach a point of union, which will lay the groundwork for a cosmic possibility.
Giving Back to the Community: What Can You Give Back?
Spud Marshall, the founder of My Creative Community defines community as “a group of people around a shared sense of belonging. There is some identity, there are some values, there is some shared interest, that brings a group of people together and that shared sense of belongingness is what defines a community.” He adds “As a community builder, you are in the business of creating wonders, creating experiences where people have a little spark of the magic of possibility.”
So, how do you actually create that spark of magic possibilities? It’s simple- you give back. But what do you give back?
You may have a lot to give, or you may only have a little. Giving to your potential is the secret to the power of giving. Always remember, it’s not how much you give that makes a difference, but how you offer it. It’s only that the difference is that you opened yourself up for the same cause.
So, the first step is in realising your full potential. Figure out what you have that others would find useful. There is a chance you have more than you realise. To begin, you must examine your talents, abilities, and resources. They could be something, such as time, money, or the capacity to plan a fund-raising event, or intangible, such as love, knowledge, or attention. It’s possible that at this moment in your life, random acts of kindness are all you have to give.
Keep in mind that your acts have impacts beyond your original gift, which are usually favourable. Sometimes it can even cause a ripple effect. For instance, “I can share my surplus with others too,” the receiver of your extra carrots may think, just as the distant cousin may be inspired to connect with others by your considerate gesture.
