ENIG is a two-layer metallic coating in Hard Gold PCB. Nickel is a copper barrier and it is the surface to which the components are soldered. During storage, the gold protects the nickel and gives the low contact resistance that is needed for the thin gold deposits. In the PCB industry, ENIG is now the most used finish and it is because of the growth and implementation of the RoHS regulation.
