Description

Our Bridal Industry go though changes every few years. In the 1980s, all brides used to wear saree – Be it South Indian Bride, or a North Indian Bride. A heavy gold Zari saree used to be the wedding attire. Brides used to go specially to Banaras and Kanchipuram to shop for their wedding attire and trousseau.

In the 2000s, the Wedding Industry saw a tremendous change. Weddings became grander and so did the Bride and Groom’s attire. Brides now ditched the traditional saree and moved towards heavy lehangas. Traditional handloomed sarees lost their charm and place in a bride’s trousseau. It was replaced with machine made fabrics like satin, Net, and viscous georgette.

But with the turn of 2020, we saw a large number of brides going back to Sarees. Celebrities and big designers picked up traditional Zari weaved sarees for the big day. The most recent wedding which comes to mind being Diya Mirza’s. She wore a gorgeous Banarasi Handloom Saree in a traditional Red color. And we surely know she looked gorgeous in that.

Anothere Celebrity wedding we witnessed recently was Yami Gautam. She rocked the bridal look in a Red Silk Saree with an Odhani.

Even big designers like Sabyasachi and Anita Dongre have created such gorgeous wedding attires using Handloom Sarees.
