In petroleum refineries, Natural gas processing plants, and other industrial facilities, flare gas boosting is used to increase the pressure of the gas flow exiting the system, thus decreasing the gas potential energy, thus increasing the power output of the gas combustion.
There are several different processes by which this can be achieved. The most common process is to cool the flare gas boosting, either by passing it through a heat exchanger, or by introducing an amount of compressed air to the line. However, in certain cases, the temperature and pressure of the gas at the process exit can be utilized to increase the gas pressure, thus removing the need for additional energy input.
