An EEG, or electroencephalogram, is a test that measures the electrical activity of the brain. The doctor may recommend this test to evaluate various conditions like sleep disorders or brain injuries, as well as to monitor brain activity during surgery or when a person is in a coma. The test is usually done after a patient has a seizure for the first time. Ideally, the test should be done within 24 hours.
To find out EEG test price, you may need to do an online search to find out the best diagnostic labs in your area.
During the test, the technician will place flat metal disks called electrodes on different spots on your scalp. These electrodes are connected by wires to a recording machine. The electrical signals result from the activity of the brain cells. The signals are amplified and displayed on the computer screen as a graph. During the EEG, special attention is given to the basic waveform, but brief bursts of energy and responses to stimuli, such as flashing lights, may also be looked at.
EEG test cost may vary depending on the location of the lab.
