A double marker test is also called maternal serum screening. It is a simple blood test that involves a blood sample to be screened for signs of some chromosomal issues. The reason behind doing this test is to detect the risk of Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) and Edward syndrome (Trisomy 18), which are genetic conditions that can affect the development of the fetus. The double marker test price will vary depending on the type and location of the diagnostic centre.
Expectant mothers during the first several months of pregnancy are advised to take up this test. It is usually done between the 10th and 14th weeks of gestation. The test focuses on two important markers: human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A). These markers provide valuable insights into the probability of chromosomal abnormalities in the developing foetus. The test enables the doctors to find out high-risk pregnancies and offer appropriate counselling and support to expectant parents. You can also look for double marker test cost by doing an online search.
