One or more source databases, particular predetermined schema, or even specific segments within each database can be replicated to one or more destination databases in a one-way or multi-way replication strategy. As a result, reads and writes can be handled concurrently in both the source and target databases. All databases engaged in the replication system create a distributed database environment.
From a logical sense, Advanced Replication provides a hot standby database. The target database is open and available for quick failover if the source database fails, unlike in a standard standby database scenario. For disaster recovery, the target should ideally be kept on a different system in a remote location.
