Cuttack - City Guide
Cuttack is the Tier-II city and commercial capital of the state. The Mahanadi River and Kathajodi River create a lush green environment to spend time with friends and family. There are many places to look around in the cultural site of Odisha. Go shopping in the Bauna Bazaar, Bauna means stunted and bazaar means markets and streets, which helps to learn more about the specialties of the city.
In the name of twin cities, if one is Bhubaneswar, another is Cuttack. Cuttack gets its name from the Sanskrit word Kataka, meaning capital establishment or cantonment. Barbari Fort was built in the same period as Cuttack when the city emerged as a strong power. First established as a military encampment, the Keshari dynasty ruled the region in 989 CE. Historians marked Cuttack as the ruling capital of the state in the olden days, which was discovered by archaeological research. Kataka Chandi Temple on the banks of the Mahanadhi River is famous, while Kataka was the name of the district, which then transformed into Cuttack.
