Baskathi Parboiled rice is used for everyday meals as well as for preparing pulao and biriyani. It is usually preferred for daily usage in households than basmati, as it is highly nutritious and costs lesser than basmati rice. It takes a bit longer time to cook than raw white rice. Parboiled rice is also known as Usna rice in eastern parts of the country. In southern parts of the country like Tamil Nadu, the most popular variant of parboiled rice is Ponni rice which is processed in a similar manner but the grains are shorter in comparison to the Baskathi variant.
