Bakarwal dog is an ancient breed, which originates in the majestic Himalayan mountains of India. As the breed is a very old type, the Bakharwal dog is known by many names throughout its long history. These names include Kashmir Mastiff, Kashmir Sheepdog, Bakarwal Mastiff, Kashmiri Bakarwal Dog, Gurjar Wathdog, Gurjar Dog or simply Bakarwal. The breed is believed to have been descended from a prehistoric molluscar dog and as such has an archaic and indifferent past.
