A short distance from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the Annapurna Devi Mandir in Varanasi. She is considered the mother of food in all the three worlds. It is said that the mother herself had given food to Lord Shiva. Such paintings have been made on the walls of this temple. In one picture, Devi is holding a hammer. In this temple, only once in a year the golden statue of Mother Annapurna is taken out for public darshan on the day of Annakoot Mahotsav. Only then the devotees can have a glimpse of his wonderful shade.
