The beautiful city of Amritsar was founded by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh guru in 1577. This sacred city holds Sikhism's holiest shrine - the Golden Temple or Sri Harmandir Sahib. More than being a sacred Gurudwara of the Sikh, Amritsar's Golden Temple stands tall as the epitome of brotherhood and equality. Amritsar, which literally translates to the 'Pool of Nectar', derives its name from Amrit Sarovar, the holy tank that surrounds the glorious Golden Temple.

Visited by lakhs of tourists and devotees from all across the world, Golden Temple has gained global interest as a prime tourist attraction in India. Everyone, irrespective of caste and creed, can visit the Golden Temple, but bear it in mind to cover your head and take off your shoes while visiting this holy shrine.
