In the comics, the alien Venom symbiote first appeared in Spider-Man during the “Secret Wars” event in 1984. After realizing that his costume could take on a life of its own, Spider-Man discarded it, and the symbiote then sought a new host, journalist Eddie Brock. However, because Sony had sold the Spider-Man rights to Marvel Studios, the symbiote’s origins were changed, and the film used the “Life Foundation” as the backdrop for Eddie Brock getting the alien symbiote.
