St. George Fort Museum - Chennai
Constructed in 1644, Fort St. George is currently a museum showcasing South Indian British history. For historians and those curious about Indian history and the independence movement, this museum serves as a central resource. The European-style edifice contains cannons, Armor, weaponry and other artefacts from India's British era. A beautiful example of the military architecture marvel, the St. George Fort is probably the most noticeable ancient monument in Chennai.
St. George's Fort is divided into two parts: one is St. Mary’s Church and the other is the Fort Museum's. Mary’s church is one of the oldest churches as well as the oldest Anglican Church which was built by the British. One of the unique features here is the 150ft flagstaff which is entirely made of teakwood. Though it is not visible, its relics are still visible. Another striking building here is the Fort St. George Museum, which houses the relics of the British personnel who inhabited this fort.
