CNC Shop Level Functions for CNC Operators
Job Description
The main "Machining Execution Anchor" and "Precision Component Specialist" for our shop floor operations is the CNC Machine Operator - Manufacturing & Machining Operations (CNC / VMC Setup, Part Machining & Dimensional Inspection Specialist). Your main responsibility is to load programs, set up tooling, mount raw stock or workpieces, operate CNC turning centers, vertical machining centers (VMCs), or horizontal machining centers (HMCs), and carry out precision machining in accordance with engineering blueprints and job cards, while manufacturing engineers create process sheets and CNC programmers write part programs.

Responsibilities:
CNC/VMC Machine Setup & Operation: Install cutting tools, load workpieces, adjust work offsets, and calibrate and run CNC lathes, vertical machining centers (VMCs), or 3/4/5-axis milling centers.
Part Machining & Program Call-up: Choose, confirm, and initiate G-code and M-code programs; perform first-piece proofs and dry runs; and carry out production machining runs within cycle time constraints.
In-Process Quality & Dimensional Inspection: Use precise measuring tools to check machined products against blueprint engineering tolerances during production cycles.
Tool Wear Monitoring & Offset Adjustments: Keep an eye on the wear of cutting tools, correct wear and geometry offsets, replace worn inserts and end mills, and avoid part rejections because of tool deterioration.
5S Workstation Management & Regular Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe workstation and carry out autonomous machine inspections every day while adhering to Lockout/Tagout regulations and 5S principles.

Skills:
CNC Machinery Operation & Controls: Practical experience with main controller interfaces in CNC turning centers or VMC units (Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, Mitsubishi).
Strong comprehension of mechanical drawings, GD&T symbols, engineering tolerances, and the usage of micrometres, vernier callipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges are all necessary for precise measurement and blueprint reading.
Tooling & Offset Adjustments: Accurate wear and geometry offset adjustments and a strong grasp of cutting tools (carbide inserts, end mills, drills, and taps).
Shop Floor Safety & Coolant Management: Detailed knowledge of chip handling, emergency stop protocols, safe machining techniques, and coolant maintenance.
