Alipurduar - City Guide
Surrounded by gushing rivers, rich foliage, and towering mountains, Alipurduar is a paradise for those who enjoy the outdoors. It is quickly becoming a more well-liked tourist attraction, nestled smack dab in the centre of some of the largest national reserves in the nation. Colonel Hedayat Ali, whose assistance during the Indo-Bhutan conflict was much valued and so credited, is the reason the town bears his name. The town was formerly known as Alipur; however, the suffix "duar" was added to separate it from the similarly named area in Kolkata and because it was a part of the Dooar's areas (Dooars meaning gateway). Alipurduar transformed from a major military installation to a major hub for communications and administration under British occupation.
