The legal framework for electronic signatures in India is primarily governed by the Information Technology Act, 2000 (ITA). This act defines electronic signatures and provides a legal framework for their use and acceptance. It states that an Electronic Signature Online is legally equivalent to a physical signature if it meets certain conditions, such as being unique to the signer, being under the control of the signer, and being capable of detecting any alterations made after signing. This means that businesses can confidently use eSign services for signing their business documents.
