A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) about the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, which left at least 30 people dead and 60 injured, was denied by the Supreme Court of India. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna led the bench, which called the occurrence "unfortunate" but instructed the petitioner to go to the Allahabad High Court, pointing out that a judicial investigation is already in progress.
