Something about the Vietnam tour package can feel off in a way that's hard to name, like you're experiencing a version of Vietnam that's been translated and sanitized. The guides are nice, the hotels are clean, but there's a distance between you and the actual country that never quite closes. I've felt this more in Vietnam packages that try too hard to make everything comfortable, removing anything unpredictable or rough which is also removing a lot of what makes Vietnam interesting. Comfort and authenticity don't always get along.
