Description
A Medical Records Analyst manages and evaluates patient healthcare data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. They audit Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, process clinical coding, prepare reports, and support legal, insurance, or administrative workflows while maintaining strict data privacy.
Responsibilities
Record Auditing & Collation: Review medical charts, documents, and billing records to ensure clinical information is accurate and fully documented.
Data Analysis & Processing: Organize patient data into chronological timelines, extract key clinical findings, and generate reports for administrative, legal, or medical management use.
Coding & Compliance: Translate diagnoses and procedures into standardized alphanumeric medical codes, ensuring strict adherence to healthcare regulations (like HIPAA or GDPR).Quality Assurance: Identify documentation gaps or discrepancies and follow up with medical practitioners to complete or correct records.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Communicate with legal teams, medical staff, and insurance providers to support case workflows and clinical operations.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Typically requires a degree or certification in Health Information Management (HIM), Healthcare Administration, or a related life sciences field.
Certifications: Certifications like CPC (Certified Professional Coder), RHIA, or RHIT are highly preferred by employers.
Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and database management tools.
Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
