Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced last month that three criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—would be successfully implemented in Chandigarh. These laws took the place of the Indian Evidence Act, the Indian Penal Code, and the Code of Criminal Procedure, respectively, and went into effect on July 1.
