Bureau News, September 23: India won gold in the women's division of the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest, after the men's division. Indian chess created history with this victory. The United States, who held Kazakhstan, the reigning champions, to a 2-2 draw, helped India win. Consequently, the gold hope of Kazakhstan was shattered, and India took the lead.

The match versus Azerbaijan was drawn by Vaishali Rameshbabu, an Indian member of the women's team and Rameshbabu Pragyanand's sister. India's gold prospects were secured when Harika Dronavali and Vanthika Aggarwal triumphed in their subsequent matches. The Indian women's team has won gold at the FIDE Chess Olympiad for the first time. India surpassed Kazakhstan to take the top spot with their victory over Azerbaijan in the championship round. Tanya Sachdev and Divya Deshmukh were two more team members. Abhijit Kunte was their captain. India is celebrating as both the men's and women's teams have returned from Budapest with gold. In Indian sports circles, a wave of success following success in this Hungarian city has sparked enthusiasm.
