Established in 1981, the Institute of Distance Education( IDE) is the distance literacy arm of the University of Madras. For over four decades, IDE has been devoted to expanding access to advanced education, feeding scholars not only across India but also internationally.

Offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including the highly sought-after Bachelor of Commerce( B.Com), IDE is especially known for its learner-friendly course paraphernalia and flexible study options, ideal for working professionals or those seeking non-traditional study paths.

IDE is honored by both the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), ensuring its programs meet public standards. It has also earned an ‘ A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council( NAAC) and has been designated as a “ University with Implications for Excellence. ”
