The Gaumukh Tapovan Trek is an 8-day high-altitude expedition in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, offering a transformative pilgrimage to the source of the sacred Ganges River. Starting from Dehradun and based from Gangotri (10,200 feet), this 46-kilometer expedition reaches the alpine meadow of Tapovan at 14,600 feet, blending spiritual significance with adventure.

Gaumukh—translating to "mouth of a cow"—marks the sacred source where the Bhagirathi River originates from the Gangotri Glacier. For millions of Hindus, this is where the Ganges begins its divine journey. Tapovan, meaning "place of meditation," has been a retreat for yogis and sages for centuries, surrounded by majestic peaks including Shivling, Meru, and the Bhagirathi group.

This moderate to difficult trek requires previous high-altitude trekking experience (minimum 4,000m/13,100ft) and good cardiovascular fitness. Participants must pass medical requirements and fitness assessments, including carrying 12-16 kg backpacks and covering 5 km in 30 minutes without stress.
