The Chardham Yatra, also known as the journey to the four sacred sites, is a pilgrimage circuit in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It encompasses four holy destinations: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These sites hold significant religious importance for Hindus and attract millions of pilgrims annually. Yamunotri: This is the source of the Yamuna River and is dedicated to the goddess Yamuna. The temple here is situated at an altitude of around 3,293 meters (10,804 feet) above sea level. Gangotri: The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is the next stop. Gangotri is the origin of the Ganges River (Bhagirathi River). Pilgrims visit the temple located at an altitude of approximately 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) above sea level. Kedarnath: This destination is home to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (lingams of light) of Lord Shiva. The Kedarnath Temple is nestled amidst the Garhwal Himalayan range at an elevation of about 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) above sea level. Badrinath: The last stop on the circuit is Badrinath, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is situated along the Alaknanda River at an altitude of approximately 3,133 meters (10,279 feet) above sea level. The Chardham Yatra is not just a physical journey but also a spiritual one, believed to cleanse the soul of sins and pave the way for salvation (moksha). The yatra usually starts from Yamunotri and proceeds clockwise to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally Badrinath. It’s typically undertaken during the summer months when the weather is more favorable for travel, although specific dates can vary from year to year based on Hindu calendar considerations. #ChardhamYatra #Pilgrimage #Hinduism #Uttarakhand #Yamunotri #Gangotri #Kedarnath #Badrinath #Spirituality #sacredsites #Himalayas #Yatra #India
