There are 2 separate known species of African Grey which are the Congo African Grey Parrot and the Timneh African Grey. Though the Timneh once deemed the sub species of Congo African Grey known as Psittacus Erithacus, they are now recognized since 2012 as a fully separate specie known as Psittacus Timneh by the Birdlife International Group on the basis of the Genetics, Morphology and Vocal differences.
However there is technically a third specie call Princep Grey known Psittacus E. Princeps, which is suddenly seen or can be found in the island of Principe and Fernando Pó in the Gulf of Guinea. This Bird is slightly darker than the congo African Grey
