Installing Raspbian on your Raspberry Pi means you'll find Minecraft Pi in the Games section. Minecraft Pi is a stripped-down version of the popular survival game. It's created to teach users different programming languages. It's certainly enjoyable but not the Minecraft game we are all so fond of. A group of Raspberry Pi users has figured out how you can install Minecraft full-featured on your Raspberry Pi 2, or 3. There's plenty to edit and tweaking using files and Terminal commands, as with everything else on the Raspberry Pi. Make sure you take your time, and read through each step, and you should be able to complete the task. Remember that before you begin, there are some things you should know: You'll need your Mojang account login information and your Minecraft username. You'll need a paid Minecraft license. You can purchase one from Minecraft.net This guide is for Minecraft 1.8.9. You are able to continue using the latest version of Minecraft 1.8.9. Although Minecraft isn't the most pleasurable experience on an expensive computer however, it is certainly possible to play it. Spend an hour setting up everything. Minecraft servers list I recommend opening this guide using your browser on the Raspberry Pi, with an Terminal window right next to it. There are some altered log files that are stored in Dropbox accounts that you'll have to download and I'd hate to publish the commands here, only to have the links changed at a later day. The procedure is easy, mostly requiring you to copy Terminal commands from your browser, and then paste them into the command line. After you've pasted each command then press enter on your keyboard and your Pi will take care of the rest. Tips to make the process smoother Raspberry Pi 3 users are exempt from the first step. At present, you are not able to overclock the Pi 3. The Pi 3 is faster than the Pi 2 out of the box. After entering Step 4's command After entering Step 4, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight Advanced options and press enter. Next highlight GL Options, select Enable. I was a bit confused by Step 7 of the guideline, where it says click on "edit profile," You actually need to click on Profile Editor and then double-click on the first (and only) listing. Click on Version Selection next to Use version to select the number of the build. Remember, the default setting is 1.8.9. For now, use this version, and we can alter it once everything is working. Step 10 instructs you to edit "run.sh" without any further instructions. Open the Minecraft folder inside your Pi directory, right-click the run.sh file and choose Text Editor. There are two ways to launch Minecraft. To launch Minecraft, the guide will tell you that you should use "./run.sh". While that works, before entering the command you'll have to type "cd Minecraft" into a Terminal window. Another option is to open the Minecraft folder, double-click the run.sh file and select "Execute." Use the most recent version of Minecraft, so once you get everything working you can begin playing with the installation. To upgrade to the most recent Minecraft version, you will need to restart Minecraft.jar. Enter the cd Minecraft in a Terminal window Next, enter: java -jar Minecraft.jar Click on Profile Editor then change the version to 1.9.4 (or whatever the most recent version is). Save your change and click on the Play button, forcing Minecraft to download the latest version. Next step is to then, open the Minecraft folder. To avoid problems if you make a mistake, you should take two seconds to make a duplicate of the run.sh file. Change the name to something that is on the lines of "runcopy.sh". With a copy safely hidden away and open the run.sh file by right-clicking on it and choosing Text Editor. Enter 1.8.9 into the text field by pressing Ctrl+F on your keyboard. There should be two -only twoinstances discovered. Each of them should be replaced with the current Minecraft version (this should be the same version number you selected in step 3). Save the file, then reboot your Raspberry Pi. Start Minecraft as normal and then enjoy.
