Our molars (back teeth) have a lot of grooves and divots that make grinding food much easier, but these grooves make it easier for bacteria to hide. If left unchecked, the bacteria will grow and can cause the enamel around the tooth to decay. We can seal these teeth by applying a resin to the top of the molars, which fills in the grooves, making the teeth much easier to clean.
If bacteria has grown too much and causes the tooth to decay, a filling may be necessary to fill the decayed portion. Fillings can be made from a metal amalgam, porcelain, or resin and will protect the tooth and keep it from hurting. Metal amalgams are more durable than resin, but resin and porcelain fillings look much more natural and are perfect for wanting to maintain a healthy appearance. Whichever material you use, your teeth will feel great and will work just like nothing ever happened.
