Description: A diesel power plant in Iraq, operating multiple MAN STX 18V28/32S engines for continuous electricity generation, encountered significant crankshaft issues. The crankpins, with a standard diameter of 230.00 mm and a bearing width of 180.00 mm, exhibited excessive ovality and deep bearing line marks, leading to recurrent bearing failures. In certain instances, bearing seizures was also observed. RA Power Solutions deployed their team to the site, conducting comprehensive inspections, including dimensional measurements, Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) for crack detection, and hardness testing. Utilizing their advanced onsite crankshaft grinding machine, they successfully ground the affected crankpins, reducing diameters by 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm as needed. Post-repair, the crankpins achieved tolerances within 0.02 mm and a surface finish of 15 RA or better, ensuring prolonged engine performance and reliability.
