Imatinib is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and other diseases. In chronic myeloid leukemia, ABL, a tyrosine kinase, is always activated. Imatinib attaches to the active site of tyrosine kinase and blocks its activity.
