    Fenugreek and Blood Sugar

Fenugreek seeds decreased blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetics in a study published in the January 2009 "International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research." Participants consumed 10 grams a day of powdered fenugreek seeds soaked in hot water for eight weeks. Results showed an average 25 percent decline in fasting blood sugar levels. By contrast, a group that consumed the same amount of powdered fenugreek mixed with yogurt didn't realize significant benefits related to reduced blood sugar levels. Glucocil

Adrenal function plays a key role in blood sugar balance. When mental or physical stress triggers the “fight or flight” response, your adrenal glands secrete adrenaline and hormones like cortisol that increase blood sugar (glucose) and insulin levels to energize your cells for action. Repeated stress, especially when it is not followed by physical action, can result in elevated levels of circulating cortisol, insulin and blood sugar (hyperglycemia) that negatively affect health over time.* High cortisol and high insulin together with high blood sugar also result in weight gain because your body stores the unused energy as fat around your waist. If your adrenals are fatigued and adrenal hormone levels remain low, even during stress, your body is less able to convert stored fats and proteins into the glucose necessary for energy. This is why people typically experience low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) during adrenal fatigue.* Balanced blood sugar makes it easier for your body to recover more quickly from stress and adrenal fatigue, and helps protect your tissues during stressful times.*
