Description

A differential is a combination of gears with three shafts that provides the variation in rotational speed of the wheels while taking a turn. Thus the differential is employed to provide less rotational speed to the inner wheel and comparatively higher speed to the outer wheel while taking a turn.
There are a number of differentials depending upon their working procedure- Epicyclic differential, spur Gear differential etc.
Following are the Differential Assembly Parts required for a working differential:
1. Flange:
A flange is a component bolted to a place in order to support a shaft.
2. Pinion Gear:
A pinion gear is connected to the power input shafts and meshes with the ring gear to transmit power.
3. Spider Gears:
The spider gear is fixed on the ring gear and is meshed with two side gears and is free to make two kinds of rotations.
4. Side Gear: The side gear is connected with two spider gears and the rear axle shaft to provide accurate angular speed to the respective wheel.
5. Axle shafts: Both the left and right axle shafts are connected with the side gears and wheels to transfer power to wheels.
All these parts are assembled in a sequential manner to provide required angular speed to the wheels.
Summary: - The Differential Assembly Parts a vital role in the motion of the vehicle while taking a turn. It did not work while the vehicle is moving in a straight direction. It decreases the speed of the inner wheel and increases the speed of the outer wheel while taking a turn.
