Networking, communication skills, and classroom support are all benefits of incorporating various social media tools into the curriculum.
Support Outside of the Classroom
Increasingly, students are trying to find the power to access answers and feedback outside of the classroom. Because the use of social media and other internet tools changes the immediacy of this contact and connection, teachers are ready to utilize social media tools to support students outside of the classroom, and students also are ready to gain support from each other. One social media tool which will help with this is often the incorporation of a personal Facebook page for a category to utilize outside of faculty. Teachers are ready to post assignments, answer questions, and supply additional explanations for any questions students may need, utilizing after school hours and weekends to still learn. Additionally, students have the power to urge answers and concepts from one other, improving and increasing the feedback and brainstorming which will be so essential in gaining critical and artistic thinking skills. Another tool that teachers can utilize is the use of a personal YouTube channel to share instruction through video. Taping lectures and posting later to YouTube allows students to reference the fabric and explanations at other times during the week, which may be particularly helpful when performing on a math problem or editing an English paper outside of normal classroom hours.
