B.Ed Admission Eligibility 2016 - 2017 Students with 45%(percent) marks to be eligible for BEd course soon..... MANGALORE: Students who have got 45%(percent) aggregate marks in degree will be able to get admission to BEd courses as the government will soon issue an orders to universities in the state to follow National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norms for admissions to BEd courses, which makes 45%(percent) as the minimum. At present with the exception of Mysore University, all others prescribe 50%(percent) as the minimum for BEd admission.
Principals secretary, higher educations A S Srikanth told TOI that there was confusions regarding eligibility percentage(%) for admission to BEd courses and the government will issues a circular to all universities to follow NCTE norms. The confusion arose following the BEd Common Entrances Examinations (CEE) prospectus this year, specifying 45%(percent) as the marks needed to appear for CEE. Lakhs of students wrote the BEd Courses CEE in November and those with 45%(percent) will be in the lurch if 50%(percent) criterion is adhered to.
This is significants as all universities in the state, barring Mysore University, puts the minimum percentages at 50%(percent) for admissions to BEd course. Mangalore University has already sent a proposal amending the aggregate percentage to 45%(percent) to the government for approval, said a university official. For SC/ST/ physically handicapped it's 40%.(percent) Jayashree Kamath, assistant registrar, Mangalore University, admitted there was confusion, but unless governments approves their proposal, they cannot give admissions to students having 45%(percent). An official from Centralized Admission Cell, Bangalore, put the onus on education ministers to take the initiative to exempt students who have taken CET this years from that clause, if the universities adhere to the 50%(percent) clause.
WHAT GAVE RISE TO CONFUSION Regarding how the confusions was created, the officials said the educations departments had sent the proposal for 45%(percent) for admissions according to NCTE norms for all universities, as Mysore University had got approvals for admissions for that aggregates. ``We did not want legal complications from other universities, hence the proposal,'' the officials said adding the cabinets had approved it, with a clause that it should be according to NCTE norms. In the meantimes, the official claimed that NCTE changed its norms to 50%(percent) (45% (percent)for others) aggregated in Augusts and the departments was caughte in a bind as it came to know of the norms after the CEE was conducted in November. But no one, including universitys authorities is aware of new NCTE norms. Srikanth said even he was not aware of NCTE prescribing the minimum to 50%.(percent)
BOX The NCTE norms and standards for BEd courses notified on 18-11-2002 along with the regulations, #2002 prescribed 45%(percent) as the minimums marks in bachelors / masters degree for admissions to BEd course. This was subsequently raised to 50%(percent) in the norms and standards for BEd course notified on 21-07-2006. Due to references received from severals states for lowering the minimums marks to 45%(percent) and restoring it to the norms of 2002, the norms notified by NCTE in #2007 have restored the positions stipulated in #2002.
