1. “Marine Engineering” and the role of Marine Engineers
A Modern ship consists of a host of complex and sophisticated machinery like large diesel engines, boilers, steam engines, steam turbines, gas turbines, alternators, pumps, crosses, winches, compressors, refrigeration & air-conditioning plants etc. The role of the Marine engineer is to perform the task of operating and maintaining these machinery safely and efficiently which requires a high degree of skill and expertise.
“Marine Engineering” course + 4 Modular Courses = Junior Engineer salary 1000 USD pm
6 Months Sea Service as a junior engineer + 3 Months course + passing in class IV Exam=Forth Engineer(2700 USD/ m)
12 month sea service + 4 month course + passing in class II Exam=Second Engineer (salary5700USD/m)
18 month sea service + 2 Month course + passing class I Exam=Chief engineer(salary 8000USD/m)
“Naval Architecture” is a professional engineer who is responsible for the design, construction, ship building and repair of ships.
There are wide Job Opportunities at Present in the International Ship Construction Yards especially, at Korea, Japan & India. Etc.,
Naval architects have a broad range of employment opportunities worldwide.
Naval architects may also occasionally teach courses in higher education institutions.
After Completion of NA & SB, they have the option to join as a Marine Engineer in the Merchant Ships by completing One Year Pre-Sea Graduate Mechanical Engineering Course (GME).
This course will lead the candidates to become the Captain of the ship. Captain of the ship is also referred as Master mariner. On successful completion of this pre-sea training, the candidates are eligible to become nautical Deck Cadets on board a ship.
This course consists of six semesters. The B.Sc (Nautical Science) degree will be awarded by the University on the successful completion of Three years duration. After 3 years, the cadets will be joining as the Trainee Cadet Officers on board the ship.

4.Diploma In “Nautical Science”(1 year Course)
1 year course consists of 2 semesters and exams are conducted by University. After passing out the exams conducted by University, the cadets will be awarded DIPLOMA “NAUTICAL SCIENCE” by University.
They will undergo 4 months Second mate’s foundation course & they are eligible to appear for 2nd mate exams. After passing second mate exams, they will be promoted as Second officer.
